Sun Communities Does Not Want the Feeling of

Community in Their Mobile Home Parks

Sun Communities is a leading real estate investment trust that specializes in owning, operating, and developing manufactured housing and recreational vehicle communities. With over 600 properties across the United States and Canada, Sun Communities thinks they provide high-quality, affordable housing options for individuals and families looking for a sense of community and belonging.  But do they really?

Recent reports and testimonials from residents suggest that Sun Communities may not be as committed to fostering a sense of Community within their mobile home parks as they claim to be. In fact, Mr. Mike’s Neighborhood has gone so far as to say that Sun Communities actively discourages the formation of a tight-knit community among its residents.

One of the primary ways in which Sun Communities is accused of stifling community spirit is through their strict rules and regulations. While it is understandable that a property management company would need to enforce certain rules to maintain order and safety within their communities, residents claim that Sun Communities takes this to an extreme level. Residents report feeling constantly monitored and policed by management, with little room for individuality or personal expression.

For example, some residents have complained that they are not allowed to have certain decorations or landscaping features on their properties, even if they are well-maintained and inoffensive. Others have reported being reprimanded for hosting gatherings or events on their properties, as Sun Communities has strict rules about noise levels and the number of guests allowed at any given time.

Furthermore, residents claim that Sun Communities is quick to issue fines and penalties for even minor infractions of their rules, creating a culture of fear and distrust among residents. This, in turn, makes it difficult for residents to form meaningful connections with their neighbors, as they are constantly worried about running afoul of management and facing consequences.

In addition to their strict rules and regulations, residents also accuse Sun Communities of neglecting the maintenance and upkeep of their properties. Many residents report that common areas such as playgrounds, swimming pools, and community centers are in disrepair, making it difficult for residents to come together and socialize. This lack of investment in community spaces sends a clear message to residents that Sun Communities does not prioritize fostering a sense of community within their mobile home parks.

Furthermore, residents claim that Sun Communities is more focused on maximizing profits than on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for residents. Many residents report feeling nickel-and-dimed by management, with constant increases in lot rents and fees for amenities that are not always well-maintained. This financial strain makes it difficult for residents to invest in their homes and communities, further hindering the formation of a strong sense of community.

Overall, it is clear that Sun Communities does not want the feeling of Community in their mobile home parks. By enforcing strict rules and regulations, neglecting maintenance of community spaces, and prioritizing profits over resident well-being, Sun Communities is actively discouraging the formation of a tight-knit community among its residents. This is a concerning trend that should be addressed by both residents and the company itself in order to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all who call Sun Communities HOME.
